It would appear that my budding psychic abilities have begun to reward me...
As a lot of people on the left praised known biggot Bay Buchanan for her outburst on the scandal yesterday, I couldn't help but notice a tinge of anti-gay sentiment in her statement about Foley being a "known homosexual."
Moreso, Concerned Women for America seem to be taking Buchanan's lead with a headline that reads "News of Congressman Mark Foley's Homosexuality No Surprise." So, if it's no surprise that he's a homosexual, then I guess it's no surprise that he acted the way he did, right?
But, as we learn more about the Predatorgate scandal, a lot of the attention is shifting to which Republican Congressmen knew about Foley's indescretions, when they knew about them and why they didn't report them - and rightly so. But instead of placing the blame directly on them, people like Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council are blaming "tolerance and diversity".
So far, I've heard nothing from Jerry Falwell or James Dobson, but I'm sure that will change very quickly. But as these self-proclaimed moral leaders steer this argument down the path towards homosexual sin, it will be very import to remember the words of Jamie Holly over at Crooks and Liars:
"Many on the right are starting to turn this into a gay issue. This is a gay issue. What is at issue here is the fact that a gay man in the United States of America can not be open about his sexuality in the year 2006. Having to hide his chosen life style is what causes someone to sink to the low and possibly criminal levels that Foley did."
It will also be very important to remember that people like James Dobson suggest that one way for a man to cure his son of homosexuality is to shower with him.
UPDATE:
Think Progress is doing a great job of documenting all of this, like the ramblings of Linda Harvey - a crazed lunatic who's more obsessed with homosexuality than most gay men.
O'Reilly is all over it too, which is no big surprised since he's completely obsessed with sex anyway.
