Enjoy It While It Lasts

I had an amazing weekend. But what crazy, left-leaning peacenik wouldn't have a great weekend that begins with the Friday afternoon outing of a sleazy, predatorial, Republican hypocrite?

Florida Representative Mark Foley - co-chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children - got nailed this weekend for sending "naughty emails" and ghastly IMs to a 16 year old page.

Yeah. My weekend was amazing.

Other Republican Congressmen were accused this weekend of a cover-up even though they knew about his behavior for years... and now the GOP has a problem.

Wow. My weekend fucking ROCKED.

But, I'm doing my best to stay humble because I know that one can only bask in the joy of another's hypocrisy for a limited time. How do I know this? Because nothing lasts forever - especially wonderfully, joyous, happy, good things like this - and Republicans always fuck up a good time.

Things are about to change. Mark my words.

Plenty of people on both sides of the political spectrum have been sounding off on this issue very loudly. But where are the voices of the moral majority? I find it hard to believe that  family values clan who screamed about the sancity of the office of the President during Clinton's consensual affair have nothing to say about a gay man and potential pedophile. I guess it's harder to deal with these things when the homosexual in question is someone you elected.

So when will the hypocrites of the Religious Right actually speak out? Soon enough. But not too soon.

Now that Foley has checked himself into a rehab program, they have the perfect alibi. And it doesn't even matter whether or not he's actually an alcoholic because their only concern right now is damage control. This makes Foley's decision (although I seriously doubt that it was entirely his own) seem pretty slick. Why? Because alcholism is the perfect demon to blame for his sick behavior and poor choices. And when that demon is exorcised from Foley's body, I'll bet that it's gay. But making that accusation will take some time.

Let the gay-bashing begin.
